Leave No Trace, kNot Your Wrappers

A great way to keep wrappers when you’re out in the wilderness.

In the outdoors, we’re constantly focused on Leave No Trace principles. One way I’ve been managing my wrappers is by tying them in little knots while I’m consuming the goods. Having them tied in a knot makes the wrappers more dense, and less likely to blow away.

This helps if I’m storing the trash in a pants pocket or the lid of my pack, where if you’re not careful, the trash can accidentally fall out. I think it also ends up being more compact when I’m using a little trash baggie. Give it a try next time you’re out!

And as a refresher, here are the 7 Leave No Trace Principles:

  1. Plan Ahead and Prepare
  2. Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
  3. Dispose of Waste Properly
  4. Leave What You Find
  5. Minimize Campfire Impacts
  6. Respect Wildlife
  7. Be Considerate to Other Visitors
